About Summerdale

Summerdale Furniture is the UK business of Uppsala Möbler AB, a company that began in a small workshop in the Swedish city of Uppsala in 1932. Our founder Lars Bergman trained as a carpenter with a keen eye for design and manufacturing efficiency and his workshop quickly grew a local reputation for contemporary furniture that offered simple, clean lines.

After the war, Lars expanded his business and in 1953 incorporated the company as Uppsala Möbler. Lars and his team exploited new manufacturing methods to design furniture that could be produced at scale, whilst retaining his core principles of pure design and solid quality. Lars called his new range Sommer Dal (‘summer valley’) and it grew in popularity across Sweden as households adopted the ‘mid-century’ design aesthetic.

In 1992 Lars passed away and the company was acquired by the Nyqvist family. Today, Uppsala Möbler continues its long tradition under the English brand ‘Summerdale’ in markets across Europe, North America and Asia.

Summerdale Furniture began to supply Uppsala Möbler furniture to the UK market in 2018 and is based in Leicestershire, England.
